On a day dedicated to those who've donned the military uniform, El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal issued a heartfelt statement, saluting the concept of service in its various forms. Sourced from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Roybal expressed pride in the community's sizable population of veterans, noting their past sacrifices and current contributions, especially those transitioning from military to civil duty. Roybal stated, "Today, we pause to honor the men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform and defended the freedoms Americans hold dear."
With nearly 95,000 veterans residing in El Paso County, the area stands as a prominent haven for former military personnel and their families. Seeing the veterans continuing to serve within the Sheriff's Office, to serve and protect them, has become a community-wide responsibility. Roybal conveyed his gratitude, saying, "Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty remind us why America remains the greatest nation on earth—built on freedom, opportunity, and the enduring spirit of those willing to stand in its defense," as per the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The transition from military to local law enforcement is not uncommon, with a significant number of veterans finding a new avenue for public service within the Sheriff's Office. As both sworn and professional staff, along with volunteers, these individuals carry on a legacy of dedication, now just under a different badge. "To the veterans who now serve within the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office—sworn, professional staff, and volunteers—thank you. Your continued dedication to duty and community is an inspiration to all who work beside you," Roybal remarked, as obtained by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
