The City of Elizabethton has installed the final two mosaics in the 400 Block Breezeway, completing an eight-piece series created by Karen Hitchcock of Blue River Studio LLC. The new works feature themes from Carter County, including a Fraser Fir and Laurel Falls, according to the City of Elizabethton.
The project was funded through a partnership between the city, Main Street Elizabethton, and the TN Arts Commission Arts Build Communities Grant. Hitchcock said, "I'm thankful to those who helped support this public art project," and each mosaic includes hidden elements to encourage visitor engagement, as reported by the City of Elizabethton.
Carter County has added nine new mosaics by Blue River Studio LLC to its downtown area, featuring local landmarks such as Watauga Lake and the Tweetsie Railroad. The Downtown Business Association funded the first six pieces, and two more were recently installed in the 600 Block Breezeway, where they also supported new student barn quilt square art. Hitchcock said, "Public art is becoming a priority, and it's something everyone can enjoy," in the City of Elizabethton’s announcement.
