In Euless, Texas, the local police department celebrated civic engagement with a heartwarming gesture aimed at inspiring the younger generation. They conducted an honorary ceremony to welcome five-year-old Korrie Surgeon as a Junior Elementary School Resource Officer (ESRO) at Lakewood Elementary. A post on the Euless Police Department's Facebook page detailed the ceremony, held last Saturday, where the Chief convened the official "swear-in" for the young inductee.
During the course of the day, the young Surgeon was treated to the authentic experiences of public service. Euless Police shared that the kindergartener received his own badge pin, a challenge coin, and took an oath mirroring that of real officers. "Chief held a special “swear-in” ceremony to officially welcome our newest Junior ESRO for the day, Korrie Surgeon! He received his own pin, a challenge coin, and even recited an oath—just like our officers!" stated the Euless Police Department.
The young honorary ESRO spent time with Officer Harper, a mentor for the day. Their activities ranged from meeting the dispatch team to enjoying traditional police fare, donuts, and patrolling school premises. Korrie’s role served not only as a delight for him but also embodied the department's desire to foster a sense of community and public service from an early age.
