A series of school burglaries that had Bay Area educators on alert has led to an arrest, the Fremont Police Department reported. School Resource Officers (SROs) have apprehended Christopher Britton, a Fairfield resident, for multiple thefts across various counties, following an investigation that spanned Solano, Contra Costa, Marin, Alameda, and Yolo Counties.
The case came to light on October 3, when a Fremont elementary school reported an individual acting suspiciously on their grounds. Britton, when approached by school staff, couldn't give a consistent reason for his presence. After Britton’s departure, several schools in the district began noticing items missing, specifically teachers’ credit cards, which were later used to make unauthorized purchases, according to a social media post from the Fremont Police Department.
Diligent efforts by the SROs enabled the tracking of Britton's movements, culminating in his arrest on Monday. According to the department's press release, a Fremont SRO noticed Britton in Walnut Creek returning a rental vehicle believed to be used in the burglaries, which led to a coordinated effort with the Walnut Creek Police that resulted in Britton's apprehension after he attempted to flee.
