A tragic shooting occurred on Jacksonville's Southside, when a man was fatally injured at the Medusa Lounge, located at 9551 Baymeadows Rd., according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO).
The incident took place shortly before 10 p.m. Monday night, and the individual who fired the gunshots remained at the scene, subsequently calling 911 to report the incident, police disclosed. The JSO responded swiftly to the call, arriving to find the male victim with at least one gunshot wound, who, according to News4Jax, "died at the scene."
The alleged shooter was detained by officers upon their arrival and was taken to the Police Memorial Building for an interview, as stated in reports obtained by First Coast News. Members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department also responded, where they pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Further investigation of the scene by the JSO's Homicide and Crime Scene Units continued earlier today, as they began writing search warrants and progressed with their interrogation of the suspected shooter, reports Action News Jax. Despite the developments, investigators have yet revealed the nature of the relationship between the shooter and the victim, or the circumstances that led to this fatal event.
Few details are available at this time, and the identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Updates will be provided as the investigation at Medusa Lounge progresses.
