Las Vegas's bustling Chinatown faced an unexpected disruption last night as flames engulfed two local businesses, leading to an emergency response from the Clark County Fire Department. According to FOX5 Vegas, a 2-alarm fire broke out around 8:00 p.m. at The Center at Spring Mountain shops, particularly impacting Gold Rush Smoke Shop and Senor iPhone Repair, both situated near the popular Golden Tiki bar.
The fire required the evacuation of neighboring businesses, including the Golden Tiki, although it was not directly affected by the blaze. "It was a very busy time of night. The strip mall and the parking lot was completely packed," Battalion Chief Adam Weiss told FOX5, reflecting on the scene. Due to the fire's intensity, roughly 60 firefighters were deployed to contain the flames and prevent further damage. The closed eastbound lanes of Spring Mountain Road, a central artery in the Las Vegas Valley, were another casualty of the incident, causing traffic delays and a temporary barrier to the usual night flow.
No injuries were reported from the incident, a fortunate outcome considering the potential risks involved. The businesses that bore the brunt of the fire were quickly closed off, as per 8 News Now, with the area around Señor iPhone and Gold Rush Smoke Shop being sealed by fire crews. The response from security and fire personnel ensured that patrons and workers were ushered to safety as the emergency teams tackled the flames.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are underway, to glean what sparked this sudden interruption in the district's night-time harmony. According to the owner of Gold Rush Smoke Shop, an employee noticed smoke emanating from the neighboring business and acted quickly to call for emergency services. Meanwhile, the stretch of Spring Mountain Road, which had been closed from Valley View Boulevard to Wynn Road, managed to reopen before the night's end, according to RTC Southern Nevada.
