A kitchen fire in a Fitchburg residence sent one person to the hospital with smoke inhalation and led to four residents being displaced yesterday morning. The incident, which occurred at a home on Summer Street, began just after 8:30 a.m. and was subdued swiftly by firefighters, who were able to keep the fire contained within the kitchen area.
Responding crews from the Fitchburg Fire Department worked efficiently to quickly knock down the flames. According to WCVB, the fire was extinguished with a rapid attack, preventing further spread throughout the home. Unfortunately, one individual did suffer from smoke inhalation during the incident and required medical attention.
As a result of the fire, four residents found themselves without a home and are currently receiving assistance from both the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Boston 25 News reported that the joint efforts of these organizations are providing the necessary support to those affected by the event.
In addition to the human casualties, first responders were also able to successfully rescue three dogs and one cat from the premises. While the cause of the fire continues to be under investigation, the local community has rallied to aid the displaced residents and to ensure the well-being of the rescued pets.
