The City of Folsom is gearing up for a new chapter in the enhancement of local infrastructure, with Ed Mitchell Park set to undergo a significant update to its drainage system. The Folsom City Council has green-lit the second phase of improvements that aim to reinforce stormwater management and safeguard residential areas adjacent to the park from potential flood damage.
Despite previous endeavors in 2016 that saw the construction of a flood mitigation wall along Briarcliff Drive, further challenges surfaced with the downpour in 2018, necessitating additional protective measures to the north of Frankwood Drive. Coming with a new concrete flood wall, along with the regrading of the park’s drainage swale, the removal of certain greenery and fencing, and the installation of a new drainage inlet, these upgrades are designed to enhance the park’s resilience to heavy rain events and secure the well-being of homeowners nearby.
As detailed on the City of Folsom official website, the lowest bid for this endeavor, amounting to $156,300, was submitted by Sierra National Construction. The financial blueprint for these enhancements taps the city’s Drainage Capital Improvement Fund with a budget earmarked at $184,802 for the project.
With favorable weather conditions expected, construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with an estimated completion time of approximately two months.
