Early this morning, a fire broke out at the vacant Epoch Casino on Folsom Boulevard in Rancho Cordova, causing extensive damage to the structure that has not known a patron's footfall for years. As reported by ABC10, the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to the blaze at 11275 Folsom Boulevard around 2:36 a.m. Crews arrived to find flames outside the building that had spread to the attic, necessitating the call for additional firefighters to manage the escalating situation.
Turning to containment of the fire, firefighters searched the structure amidst the intensity to guarantee no person was trapped inside, with no injuries reported in the aftermath. Folsom Boulevard stayed closed for several hours as crews checked for remaining hot spots and hidden fires that could quickly spread if not contained. According to FOX40, authorities reminded the public to evacuate and call 911 in an emergency.
The former casino, located just east of Sunrise Boulevard, saw its boarded-up facades become the victims to flames and smoke. KCRA noted that the cause of the fire remains unclear even as the site has been closed to traffic to facilitate the ongoing operations by fire crews. Motorists have been advised to steer clear of the area as crews continued fighting the fire, safeguarding against any potential flare-ups that might cause renewed havoc.
