Fort Collins residents, the wheels are in motion. As reported by the City of Fort Collins, the much-anticipated Power Trail Harmony Crossing project took off Wednesday, Nov. 12. This isn't just about concrete and construction gear; it's about knitting together the seams of the city with an underpass that gives pedestrians and cyclists seamless access under the bustle of Harmony Road.
This operation isn't a light touch on the city's landscape. The first phase zeros in on the underpass, with subsequent phases stretching the trail both north to Keenland Drive and south to Golden Meadows Park. And, while progress is something to cheer, early stages in November and December will mean shoulder closures, median mayhem on Harmony Road from McMurry Avenue to Timberline Road. A few trees will take the fall on the south side of Harmony Road to pave the way for this subterranean passage.
Looking ahead, this isn't a quick fix. The finishing line is set for Spring 2027, promising a seamless Power Trail from Trilby Road up to the Spring Creek Trail. That's a full-on continuous, paved path for the community, offering a safe, connected route for those on foot or wheels. It's a long game, but one that imagines a more accessible Fort Collins.
City officials are throwing a ceremonial shovel in the ground to mark the occasion, carving out Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. at Golden Meadows Park for the groundbreaking. Media types wanting to capture the moment should get in touch with the contact listed on the city's announcement. And for those keen on the nitty-gritty of the construction process and the inevitable traffic snarls, additional information will be dispensed at the City of Fort Collins.
