Fort Worth's biodiversity has been buzzing with activity as citizen-scientists came together for the Parks for Pollinators challenge – a countrywide initiative placing the spotlight on the crucial role of pollinators in local environments. The city's Parks & Recreation Department (PARD), in collaboration with the Native Prairies Association of Texas and Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, made use of the iNaturalist app to organize a series of BioBlitzes, allowing residents to record and discover the diverse species that inhabit Fort Worth's green spaces.

The results were remarkable with over 4,000 observations of 794 species logged in the app, PARD's Central District Park Operations team, captained by Alexia Sanchez, netted the most observations and most species awards, similarly the Northside Community Center's after-school youth program steered by Raul Meza was lauded for contributing the most observations from a single facility – these commendable efforts by the residents serve as a testament to the community's vested interest in conserving local flora and fauna, especially the pollinators believed to be vital for the survival of more than 75% of flowering plants, according to the City of Fort Worth.

An awards ceremony replete with treats commemorated the achievements of these groups, fostering a sense of community around conservation efforts. The contributions stand not only as a data repository but equally function as a clarion call to the importance of sustaining, and if possible, enhancing the habitats that support pollinator populations.
