
The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, SC, issued a Freeze Warning effective until 9 AM EST this morning, covering a vast region including parts of northeast Georgia, North Carolina's Foothills and Piedmont, and the Upstate of South Carolina. According to the warning, sub-freezing temperatures in the mid to upper 20s are expected during this period.
"Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing," the warning detailed and for those with in-ground sprinkler systems, draining them is advised, as is removing hoses and covering above-ground pipes, precautionary measures are urged by officials to mitigate the impact of the freeze. The cold snap is a stark contrast to the warmer days ahead with the forecast predicting sunny skies and highs gradually climbing to near 70 by next Monday.
Additionally, no hazardous weather is expected following the expiration of the warning, with the rest of the week looking clear as per the Hazardous Weather Outlook provided by the same service. The upcoming weather conditions appear mild and favorable, a generous reprieve after the early morning's chilling start.
Residents in the affected areas are recommended to take action to protect their property and vegetation from the cold, The National Weather Service advises taking such steps "to protect tender plants from the cold" as well, including removing hoses and covering above-ground pipes, precautions aimed to prevent damage during these freeze conditions.
