The Garland Municipal Court is about to briefly close its doors to the public for a bit of an upgrade. According to an official announcement released by the City of Garland, the courthouse will be shut down next week for a couple of days, Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 25-26, to be exact. They’re rolling out new court case management software designed to make your legal dealings smoother, faster, and hopefully a little less headache-inducing.
Now, before you start to quickly rearrange your plans, keep in mind that they chose these dates strategically—it’s just before Thanksgiving. So, if you were planning to handle court-related business on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27-28, you'd have found closed doors anyway due to the holiday. Officials have stated that doors will swing back open for regular court business at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1. But let's not forget, starting at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, automated phone and web services are also going to be put on pause. These services are expected to be back up on Dec. 1, too.
For those who need to handle transactions during this blackout period, don't fret—there's a plan in place. The city has made arrangements for payments and documents to be mailed to the Garland Municipal Court at 1781 W. Avenue B, Garland, TX 75042. Alternatively, there's a drop box right next to the court's front entrance just waiting to accept your documents and payments. It seems disruption is merely an illusion if you're fine getting a little old-school with your paperwork.
