The Central Library of Garland Public Libraries has bagged not one, but two prestigious awards from the Texas Downtown Association, according to a recent announcement. The awards, falling under the Best Public Improvement category, celebrate the significant renovation that the library underwent, transforming it into a more vibrant and welcoming beacon for the community. The President’s Award, judged by a panel of industry professionals, and the People’s Choice Award, a product of social media voting, both recognized the efforts of Garland’s largest and oldest library for its outstanding contribution to its downtown area, according to the City of Garland.
Despite having faced tough competition from other cities with populations exceeding 50,000, the Central Library stood out for its enhanced public spaces, which have greatly contributed to downtown vibrancy and revitalization. Its transformation earlier this year includes not just aesthetic uplifts but also technical and sustainable improvements. These range from the addition of new technology to the creation of flexible spaces that encourage gathering and interaction, along with a specially reimagined area for children to delve into the world of books.
Awareness about the renovations and the subsequent awards was further amplified during the Texas Downtown President’s Awards Gala, which is a segment of the association's annual conference that honors commendable downtown projects across the state. This year's gala served as the platform for presenting Garland's Central Library with its well-deserved accolades.
