Gaston County has packed the coming week with community events for every interest, starting with the Gaston County Board of Commissioners' public meeting today. Citizens can engage with local government proceedings at 6:00 pm in the courthouse, and those unable to attend can follow live broadcasts via Spectrum Channel 16, AT&T Uverse Channel 99, or online streaming. This combination of work session and regular meeting offers a prime opportunity for public participation in county affairs.
As midweek approaches, GIS enthusiasts and the curious alike can delve into the world of maps and spatial data on Wednesday. "Growing Up Geo - GIS Day" celebrates this integral technology, showcasing local applications and career opportunities. The free open house event, taking place from 9 am to 3 pm at the Municipal Complex in Mount Holly, is said to include presentations from various Gaston County departments and surrounding municipalities.
The spirit of giving extends to our furry friends as well with "Pupsgiving," an event on Thursday, November 20th, where community members can serve Thanksgiving dinner to animals at the Gaston County Animal Shelter from 6-8pm. Meanwhile, Saturday brings a double dose of festivities. The Stars Hollow Festival will pay homage to "Gilmore Girls" with a day of themed activities from 10 am to 2 pm at the public library's Carol K. Reinhardt Auditorium. At the same time, just a few hours later animal lovers are invited to "Howl for the Holidays," an adoption event designed to find forever homes for pets, taking place from 12-2pm at a separate Gastonia location.
Closing out the week of events, Bessemer City ushers in the holiday season with "Christmas in the City" on Sunday. The annual Christmas Parade begins at 4:30pm, followed by the tree lighting at 6 pm or after the parade concludes. Families are encouraged to gather for caroling, photos, and festive fun at Centennial Park—an event certain to spread holiday cheer among attendees.
