The city of Germantown recently celebrated its community leaders and volunteers at the annual Board of Mayor and Aldermen Commission Appreciation Dinner. The event, which occurred on Tuesday evening, was a testament to the dedication of its citizens in various advisory roles. Over 230 commissioners, board members, and their guests assembled to honor the contributions made by the 26 boards and commissions that steer the direction of the city's future.
Among the night’s highlights, as mentioned in a news release by Germantown's official website, were presentations by the city’s Aldermen, acknowledging the achievements of the represented boards. In their sharing of accomplishments, a sense of communal pride and gratitude was in clear evidence throughout the evening, celebrating individuals whose commitment helps maintain the strength of Germantown.
Recognitions were in order for several of Germantown’s most diligent servants, including Melba Fristick, who received the 2025 Jo Reed Award from Leadership Germantown Alumni Association President Mark Ruleman for her 25 years leading the Germantown Festival and her broad civic engagement.
Deputy Chief Nick Godwin honors that were bestowed upon Officer Jerry Shaw touched upon his exceptional volunteerism as the City’s 2025 Reserve Officer of the Year. Shaw has contributed approximately 2,300 voluntary hours over the last five years, known for his reliability and his role in public safety at high-profile events such as the Germantown Charity Horse Show and Holiday Parade, according to the same news release.
Notable also were the tributes paid to commissioners Julius Moody and Frank Uhlhorn, who have each provided 25 years of service in various capacities. Moody has actively contributed to the Personnel Advisory Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Financial Advisory Commission, while Uhlhorn’s tenure includes time as an Alderman and participation on the Design Review Commission, Planning Commission, and now the Board of Zoning Appeals since 2011.
The evening served as well to remind those gathered of the loss of Jimmy Davis, a valued member of the Natural Resources Commission from 2007 until his recent passing. His dedication to Germantown’s enviornment was aptly honored, with Mayor Mike extending condolences to Davis' family.
In his address, Mayor Mike expressed appreciation for the commitment shown by the community's volunteers: "As I looked around the room, I was reminded once again that Germantown’s success has always been rooted in its people, particularly those who give their time, share their knowledge and care deeply about making our City the best it can be." The mayor also encouraged others to join the service, with applications open for various boards and commissions through November 30, as noted by the city's website.
