Governor Greg Abbott has approved a new Formosa Plastics Corporation facility in Jackson County, strengthening Texas’s position as a leader in chemical production. The company was designated as a qualified project under the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation (JETI) program earlier this week, marking a $150 million capital investment in the region.
“Texas leads the nation in chemical production and exports,” stated Governor Abbott, according to the Office of the Texas Governor. The governor’s office said Formosa Plastics’ expansion will boost job opportunities in Texas, enhance Jackson County’s economy, and reinforce the state’s manufacturing leadership. “With Texas’ unmatched business operating advantages and easy access to domestic and global markets, Texas manufacturers offer an efficient, reliable supply chain for critical materials used in the production of everyday products,” Abbott added, per the Office of the Texas Governor.
The upcoming facility will produce C6 (1-Hexene), a raw material used at Formosa Plastics’ Point Comfort complex for polyethylene manufacturing. Jack Wu, Vice President of Business Development at Formosa Plastics, Texas, expressed gratitude for the collaboration with state and local entities. “We appreciate Governor Greg Abbott’s Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Office, and the Palacios Independent School District (ISD) Board for approving our application,” Wu said, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.
Senator Joan Huffman and Representative AJ Louderback welcomed the project, emphasizing its local benefits. “Formosa Plastics’ investment is a testament to Jackson County’s economic potential and its skilled workforce,” Huffman said, according to the Office of the Texas Governor. Louderback added, “This new facility and the jobs it brings will keep the momentum going. I’m excited to see our community continue to grow and am grateful to Governor Abbott for his commitment to helping Texans thrive.”
Local leaders also voiced support. Jackson County Judge Jill S. Sklar and Palacios ISD Superintendent Dr. Jared Duncum praised Formosa Plastics’ ongoing role in regional growth. “Their continued investment brings new opportunities for our residents, strengthens our local economy, and reaffirms Jackson County as a great place to live and work,” Sklar said, per the Office of the Texas Governor. Duncum noted the company’s long-standing partnership with the community and schools, expressing optimism for continued collaboration.
