Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently announced the appointment of Gregory "Greg" Wilhelm as Judge of the 504th Judicial District Court in Ellis County. Wilhelm, a partner at the Ellis County Office of Cantey Hanger, LLP, will begin his duties on December 1, 2025. His term is slated to conclude at the end of 2026, pending the election and qualification of a successor. This move comes as part of Abbott's latest judicial appointments, aimed at ensuring qualified individuals serve the state's legal system.
With a diverse background in the field of law, Wilhelm has already served as Trial Court Judge for Ellis County Court at Law No. 1 and brings substantial experience to the bench. His leadership extends beyond the courtroom as he holds the position of president of the Ellis County Bar Association. Wilhelm is also actively involved with the State Bar of Texas and the Dallas Bar Association, along with membership in the Christian Legal Society. According to a statement by Governor Abbott's office, his commitment to community service is evidenced through his tenure on the Midlothian Economic Development Board and his leadership roles in various legal and child advocacy groups.
Apart from his legal pursuits, Wilhelm comes equipped with a solid academic foundation. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Journalism from Baylor University, a Master of Arts in Public Policy from the Robertson School of Government, and a Juris Doctor from Regent University School of Law. His multifaceted education likely informs his balanced perspective on the law, as well as his approach to judicial matters.
Wilhelm's resume boasts a series of prior engagements that speak to his credibility and dedication. He is the chairman of the Regent University School of Law Alumni Board and has also served on the Texas Governor's Parental Rights Advisory Panel. His involvement extends to juvenile justice, having been a member of the Texas Governor's Juvenile Justice Advisory Board.
