Henderson City Councilwoman Carrie Cox faces multiple allegations following a 10-month investigation by the Las Vegas police public integrity task force. According to 8 News Now, a Clark County grand jury indicted Cox on a felony charge for allegedly recording a private conversation between Councilwoman Monica Larson and two others during a city hall retirement party on January 9.
Cox has been charged with monitoring or attempting to monitor a private conversation, a charge that carries a possible prison sentence of one to four years if convicted, as reported by Hoodline. The case involves Larson and two men, Michael Hiltz and Richard Smith, who were allegedly recorded during a council meeting. Cox also faces accusations of operating an unlicensed daycare, using her council position to interfere in police and civil matters, and soliciting donations for personal use. Her attorney, Josh Tomsheck, said, “There is much more that will come to light throughout this process and Mrs. Cox very much looks forward to addressing these allegations through the appropriate channels in Court,” as per KTNV,
Metro detectives found evidence that Cox used her position to write a character letter on city letterhead for someone facing discipline from the Nevada Board of Nursing and helped associates avoid official procedures, including in matters connected to the FBI Academy. Investigators also said she shared confidential police information with the media to influence public perception, though her actions did not violate state law. Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero said, “The evidence uncovered in the 10-month investigation into her actions shows a repeated lack of integrity and character by Ms. Cox and her associates,” and added, “I am outraged by her behavior in violation of the law, as well as the public trust she has sworn to uphold,” as mentioned by 8 News Now. Cox’s arraignment is scheduled for November 20.
