In a twist reminiscent of a comedic caper, a man in Hernando County found himself in handcuffs after a bizarre set of 911 calls. Miguel Gonzalez-Nunez, a construction business operator, was arrested for illegal dumping—a misdeed triggered by his own report of a "suspicious vehicle" tailing him. As reported on the Hernando County Sheriff's Office website, the so-called suspicious vehicle turned out to be the vigilant eye of a concerned citizen who had just reported Gonzalez-Nunez's illegal activities to the authorities.
This scenario unfolded when the Good Samaritan noticed Gonzalez-Nunez discarding construction debris along the roadside and decided to document the incident. Unaware that he had been caught on video, the suspect dialed 911 to report that an 'unknown vehicle' was following him. The Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies, already en route to investigate the illegal dumping, were dispatched to look into the claims of the reckless driving, as well.
As the investigation unfolded, the suspect's story began to crumble. Video evidence provided by the witness clearly linked Gonzalez-Nunez to the offense, and further scrutiny revealed his vehicle directly in front of the disposed materials, which matched the content inside his vehicle. Despite his denials, the debris was consistent with the kind used by "King Off Kings," the suspect's construction outfit, as per the information obtained by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
Things took a more serious turn upon Gonzalez-Nunez's arrest, as it was discovered that he was residing in the U.S. illegally. This discovery prompted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to place a detainer on him. Hernando County Detention Center records show that he was given a $2,500 bond and is facing charges including Conservation-Environment, Litter Over 500 Lbs.
