Hilliard's community gathered this week at First Responders Park to pay homage to a man who served not just in title, but with a heart and spirit that echoed through the corridors of City Hall. The occasion? The dedication of a memorial stone for the late Mayor Timothy A. Ward, a fixture in local politics who, from 2000 to 2003, shaped the course of the city with a blend of visionary leadership and humble service. The stone was unveiled in a ceremony attended by city officials, community members, and Ward's family, celebrating his enduring influence on Hilliard.
A council president with words that bore witness to the Mayor's impact told those gathered, "Mayor Ward understood what makes Hilliard special — the people who care for one another, the neighborhoods that welcome newcomers, and the shared responsibility we all have to make this city a place we’re proud to call home," said Cottone, City of Hilliard reported. After a courageous battle with cancer, Mayor Ward departed from this world on Oct. 30, 2024, leaving behind a legacy etched not just in stone but in the lives of those he served.
Far more than a name on a plaque, the memorial stone represents a narrative of a husband, a father, a colleague, and a friend. It stands as a steadfast reminder of a life dedicated not just to politics, but to people.
