Honolulu is expected to have dry and calm weather through the weekend and early next week, according to the National Weather Service. Rain and higher humidity may arrive mid-week as a front moves into the area.

Satellite and radar data show mostly clear skies over the Hawaiian Islands, with light showers mainly on the eastern sides of the Big Island and Maui. Calm conditions are expected until mid-week, when a front may bring increased clouds and light showers.

Trade winds are not expected to return soon due to weak southeast air currents, according to the National Weather Service. This will allow sea and land breezes to develop, causing some cloud buildup on the leeward sides of the islands. Vog from the recent Kilauea eruption is expected to linger, creating haze in the area.

No AIRMETs are in effect for Hawaii today, with light east to southeast winds expected. Moderate easterly winds will continue over local waters through the week. A northwest swell tonight may extend the current High Surf Advisory, and a developing north Pacific low could bring waves of 40 to 50 feet on north-facing shores by the weekend.

Fire weather concerns remain low despite lower humidity, due to light winds. A thermal inversion at 5,000–6,000 feet is limiting convection over parts of the Big Island and Maui. A High Surf Advisory is in effect until 4 a.m. HST Friday for north and west-facing shores, including Niihau and the Waianae Coast.
