Houston, TX is expected to have active weather today as November is the peak month for tornado activity in the region. According to the National Weather Service, there is "A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon," with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 83 degrees. Tonight, there is a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms with about a 70% chance of precipitation.
Severe weather is expected north of Houston between 3 and 6 p.m. as a cold front moves in, meeting warm, humid air and strong upper-level winds. "Thunderstorms developing along this boundary could produce tornadoes, large hail, and wind gusts in excess of 60 mph," as reported by Houston Chronicle. November has historically seen the most tornado activity in Southeast Texas, including an F4 tornado that hit Channelview on November 21, 1992, damaging hundreds of homes.
Last December, two tornado outbreaks in the region produced 11 tornadoes, causing one death in Brazoria County and multiple injuries. With severe weather approaching, Houstonians are urged to stay vigilant during this peak tornado season and monitor conditions closely throughout the remainder of the month.
