On Saturday, a 20-year-old woman died after her car left the roadway and hit a barrier in the westbound lanes of US Highway 90 near the 8900 block. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
What officials say
According to News 4 San Antonio, police said the woman was driving a 2019 Nissan Sentra westbound on Highway 90 when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a barrier. Investigators told the station they believe speed may have been a contributing factor. The driver was transported to a hospital, where she later died, the outlet reports.
Speeding remains a leading factor
Data from NHTSA shows that speeding-related crashes accounted for about 29% of traffic fatalities in 2023, a sobering reminder that speed can quickly turn a single mistake behind the wheel into a deadly crash. That national picture highlights how fast a momentary loss of control can become fatal on high-speed corridors such as US 90.
Investigation ongoing
San Antonio police have not released the woman’s name and have not announced any criminal charges in connection with the crash, as per News 4 San Antonio. Investigators remained at the scene as they continued to piece together what led up to the fatal wreck.
