Residents across parts of Illinois and Missouri should brace for a sharp drop in temperatures, as per the National Weather Service in St. Louis. The region is set to experience colder conditions with patchy frost after 3 am on Sunday, indicating the onset of chillier nights ahead. An official Freeze Watch remains in effect from late tonight through Sunday morning for several counties, including Clinton and Marion in Illinois, and Saint Louis and Jefferson in Missouri,  warns of "sub-freezing temperatures as low as 32 possible," likely to hit the stated areas.

The imminent cold snap could severely impact local vegetation and even cause damage to unprotected outdoor plumbing systems. Officials urge the community to take precautionary steps to safeguard plants and pipes against the plunging temperatures. While the current skies are overcast with a gentle southwest breeze, the mercury is forecasted to fall sharply tonight, leading to widespread frost formation. Residents should distinctly prepare to cover their tender plants and to securely wrap their external plumbing quickly before the frost takes hold, as reported by the NWS forecast.

Despite the frigid start, the coming days promise a reprieve as sunny skies will prevail, with temperatures climbing to a pleasant high of around 55 on Sunday after the frosty start. The workweek begins with an even more appreciable warmth under sunny skies, reaching a high near 65 on Monday. With mostly clear nights, the temperatures are set to gradually increase through the week, reaching a high near 69 by Tuesday and potentially cresting at 71 come Wednesday, according to the NWS.

However, as we move towards the week's end, the weather could take another turn. Residents might want to keep their rain gear at the ready, as there is a 20 percent chance of rain by Thursday night, followed by a 30 percent chance on Friday.
