According to a news release obtained by Action News Jax, the man was struck by an SUV while attempting to cross the bustling thoroughfare. The collision took place at 6:49 p.m. near the intersection with Titan Street, and the devastating impact led to the pedestrian's death at the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol detailed that the driver, a 54-year-old Jacksonville resident, was navigating the SUV westbound in the rightmost lane when the pedestrian, crossing from the south shoulder to the north one was hit, News4Jax reported the incident occurred around 6:50 p.m., though official statements suggest it was a minute earlier.
