The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO), alongside homicide detectives, is piecing together the events that led to the woman's demise after she was discovered unresponsive and pronounced dead on the scene, as reported by Action News Jax.
Police were alerted to the situation around 1:10 p.m. after a call came in regarding a possible stabbing on the 1300 block of West 14th Street. According to News4JAX, officers found the woman, whose identity has not yet been released, in a locked room within the home. No weapons were found at the location, and the only other person present at the time was the victim's elderly mother. The landlord, who had not seen the woman since Friday, accessed the residence upon growing concerned and discovered her body.
JSO is working closely with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, the Medical Examiner's Office, and the State Attorney's Office to conduct a thorough investigation. "The circumstances surrounding the victim's death are unknown at this time," Sgt. Highfill of JSO relayed to First Coast News.
