As Thanksgiving approaches, residents of Johnson City are being given a heads-up on the operational nuances of city services during the festivities. According to the official website, government offices will pull the shutters down on Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28, returning to business as usual come Monday, Dec. 1. Essential services are all observing their own unique schedules, important for residents to note lest they find themselves in a pickle over the holiday weekend.
Be mindful of your trash bins, folks. The announcement has clarified that, except on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, garbage and recycling services are continuous. Rescheduled pickups will occur on November 29 for Thursday's route, while Friday's pickup remains unaffected. If your routine includes dragging cans to the curb on a Thursday morning, you might want to sleep in and save the effort for Saturday after your Black Friday exploits.
For those relying on the city’s transit for their commutes, a brief hiatus is in store. The entirety of the Johnson City Transit System, including Fixed Route, Paratransit, Bucshot, and Job Access, is taking a break from Thursday, November 27, through Saturday, November 29. Come Dec. 1, it's business as usual, with normal hours of operation resuming, giving you enough time to digest that turkey and pumpkin pie before getting back on your regular ride.
Parks and recreation venues have posted their own schedule for holiday-goers. Places like Memorial Park Community Center and the Langston Centre are taking an extended break from Thursday through to Sunday. Carver Recreation Center won't be available for your post-feast pickup game on Thursday and Friday, but it will reopen in time for you to work off that extra helping of mashed potatoes. Pine Oaks Golf Course, for the city's golf enthusiasts, is closing its greens just for Thanksgiving Day. Queries regarding park facilities can be directed to either [email protected] or the phone at 423.283.5815, as noted on the city's alert.
