
A 43-year-old man, identified as Michael Dwayne Oakley, has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license, related to a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred on Maryville Pike in Knox County, as per the Knox County Sheriff's Office. The incident took place around 6 p.m. on November 10, when 53-year-old Steven Walker, walking along Maryville Pike, was struck by Oakley's truck, the WBIR reported, after being discovered by deputies at 12:30 p.m. the following day, an investigation was promptly initiated, during this investigation, Knox County Sheriff's Office thanked the public for their assistance.
The Sheriff's Office asked for the public's help with information regarding the hit-and-run and subsequently was able to file charges against Oakley, with information provided by WVLT.tv indicating that up until November 13, there was no confirmation of Oakley's arrest.
Subsequent to the initial call for public assistance, and following an investigation by Knox County Sheriff's Office Traffic Division, Oakley was apprehended and faced the outlined charges, the identity of Stevens and the charge details have been confirmed through WATE; the Sheriff’s Office, however, has not disclosed further particulars surrounding the circumstances that led to the arrest or Oakley's current custody status.
