Lahaina residents have a standing invitation to the Lahaina Community Meeting tomorrow, set to commence at 5:30 p.m. at Lahaina Intermediate School cafeteria. Addressing the aftermath of wildfire devastation, the meeting will focus on several key recovery efforts and provide relevant updates directly to the community.
Involving multiple agencies, representatives will offer insights into the ongoing clean-up and rebuilding process. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) plans to review the current state of wildfire debris removal and discuss the restoration of the Temporary Debris Storage site at Olowalu. Alongside the USACE, the Hoʻōla iā Mauiakama Disaster Long Term Recovery Group will update attendees on the Mennonite Disaster Service's involvement and the status of grants and rebuild applications, according to the County of Maui's announcement.
Moreover, the County Office of Recovery is scheduled to provide information on innovative Hoʻokumu Hou programs, in addition to revealing impending projects focused on the rejuvenation of Lahaina Harbor. Intended to facilitate more direct support, the meeting will feature resource tables staffed by personnel from various departments, including the Office of Recovery, 4LEAF, the Department of Planning, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Hawaiian Electric Co., Hoʻōla iā Mauiakama Disaster Long Term Recovery Group, and the Native Hawaiian Legal Corp.
An integral part of Lahaina's fabric, these community meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month, barring public holidays, as noted by the County of Maui. For those impacted by the wildfires and unable to attend in person, accommodations have been made to livestream the meeting on the County of Maui’s Facebook page and broadcast it live on Akakū: Maui Community Media, Channel 53. Residents keen for ongoing updates or seeking additional assistance are encouraged to sign up for email and text notifications at www.mauirecovers.org/sign-up.
