Las Vegas is bracing for a bit of a traffic shuffle starting next week, as improvement works gear up on Owens Avenue. You'll want to mark your calendars and maybe plot some alternative routes because, starting Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, Owens Avenue will be down to one through lane in each direction between H Street and Interstate 15. But hey, smoother roads are on the horizon.
The heavy lifting, which primarily involves milling and repaving, will kick off on December 1 and run through December 5, of course depending on whether the weather plays nice and the machines are all in line. If you're used to cruising through these parts between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays, you've been given the heads up. According to the city's announcement, utility adjustments and striping will color in the gaps between Dec. 8 and Jan. 9. So, it's not just a repave-and-go.
Looking for a detour that doesn't involve stop-and-go frustration? The good folks managing the roadworks recommend Washington Avenue as an alternate route for bypassing the Owens Avenue slowdown. And if you're wondering why this stretch of road is getting such TLC, it's thanks, in part, to preliminary work that made sure the sidewalks are now up to scratch with the Americans with Disabilities Act standards, not to mention the soon-to-be-added bike lanes.
The outfit behind the machinery and orange cones is Las Vegas Paving, while the City of Las Vegas keeps a watchful eye on the project's execution. All this pavement pampering comes with a price tag of $1.8 million, but don't worry; the Federal Highway Administration and the Regional Transportation Commission's fuel indexing tax are picking up the tab.
