A Las Vegas man has been sentenced to a decade in prison following a conviction for the sex trafficking of a minor in San Diego, as per federal court documents. Vincent Bailey, aged 25, was also ordered to pay a restitution amount of $7,000 for the trafficking of a 16-year-old girl from Las Vegas. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California, Bailey's imprisonment stems from incidents that occurred between June 25 and July 15, 2024, where he exploited the victim across Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Diego.
The initial contact between Bailey and the victim was made via Instagram, after which Bailey coerced her into prostitution in Las Vegas and subsequently transported her to Los Angeles’ Figueroa Street, known for its prostitution activity. The victim reached out for help on July 5, after being taken to San Diego for continued exploitation. A statement by the U.S. Attorney's Office explains that the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force got involved, leading to the investigation and eventual sentencing of Bailey. Additionally, another missing juvenile from Spokane was discovered in Bailey’s vehicle at the time of his arrest in California. The regrettable delay in this press release is reportedly due to a lapse in appropriations.
U.S. Attorney Adam Gordon emphasized the severity of Bailey's actions, stating, per the U.S. Attorney's Office, "Branding a child as property and trafficking her for profit is an act of profound depravity." He further added that the "10-year prison term and $7,000 restitution order reflect our unwavering commitment to delivering justice for victims and ensuring traffickers pay for the harm they cause." This statement, along with the task force's collaborative efforts, which include the National City Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and multiple other agencies, illustrates the multi-agency approach to combating human trafficking.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta praised the joint efforts in securing the sentencing, adding, per the U.S. Attorney's Office, "Human trafficking and sexual exploitation of minors is a despicable crime that has no place in California." He highlighted the importance of the relentless pursuit of justice for victims and asserted that the DOJ is dedicated to assisting survivors of such crimes. People living under the threat of violence, or those who know someone who may be affected, are encouraged to contact the National Human Trafficking Resource Center with its toll-free hotline accessible 24/7.
Sex Trafficking of a Minor carries severe penalties, with Bailey facing the mandatory minimum of 10 years, which could have extended up to life in prison and included a $250,000 fine.
