Las Vegas Metro Police have apprehended a man in connection with the shooting death of a woman found in her car early Sunday morning. Andrew Garza, 40, was implicated in the incident that unfolded in the 7500 block of Dean Martin Drive, as reported by FOX5 Vegas. Garza, who was already in custody at Clark County Detention Center on unrelated charges, faced rebooking on Monday.
According to police, the call about a crash came in just before 5:30 a.m., leading officers to discover a vehicle that had collided with a street sign. Tragically, the woman inside, later identified by the coroner as 25-year-old Macy Stephens, had suffered a gunshot wound. News3LV reported that Stephens was pronounced dead at the scene, the cause of death being a gunshot wound to the torso.
The LVMPD has disclosed few details concerning the ongoing investigation, but Garza's link to the case was strong enough to warrant a new booking on a murder charge. Garza was scheduled for his court appearance on Tuesday afternoon.
Detectives have pieced together that the victim, Stephens, was operating the vehicle before the grim crash and shooting. As the community reels from this violent act, authorities have yet to provide a complete narrative of the events leading up to Stephens' death. Jail records noted by News3LV indicate that the suspect's court appearance aimed to bring some clarity to this disturbing case.
