As we move swiftly into the holiday season, League City has launched its annual Community Toy Drive, in collaboration with Interfaith Caring Ministries, to bring some joy to children within the community. According to the City of League City, Residents are encouraged to donate new and unwrapped toys for kids aged 0-12 at designated collection points such as the Helen Hall Library, Hometown Heroes Park, City Hall, and the Civic Center. If you're planning to attend the Holiday Tree Lighting at League Park on November 29, you can also bring along your donations to contribute to the festive spirit.
The toy drive serves not only to gather gifts but to allow parents the chance to personally select presents at a “toy store” set up by Interfaith Caring Ministries. This initiative provides a sense of normalcy and delight for families facing difficulties, where they can to choose gifts for their children. The toys will be collected and handed over to Interfaith on December 5, in time for the toy store event the following weekend.
But the spirit of giving doesn't stop with toys. The League City Animal Care is also seeking contributions this season for its four-legged residents. With an average daily headcount of about 150 animals, the shelter is reaching out for food, crates, leashes, and other pet necessities. In fact, this facility is notable for being the only municipal no-kill shelter in Galveston County. Interested donors can consult the shelter’s Wish List or drop off items directly at their Pet Pantry.
Further embracing the holiday cheer, the League City Police Department's Blue Santa Program aims to pair roughly 100 children with a local cop or firefighter for a special shopping experience. Here, the program makes it easier for these families to fully partake in the joy of the season. Monetary donations or Target gift cards are currently being collected to fund this heartwarming day out and can be made out to League City Community Outreach.
