A school bus belonging to Keystone Local School District overturned in a collision this Tuesday morning in Lorain County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The WKYC reports that the crash occurred at the intersection of Parsons Road and State Route 301 at approximately 9:36 a.m.
The accident involved a 2006 Buick, which was traveling east on Parsons Road, the driver of which failed to adhere to a stop sign, and consequently, the vehicle was hit by the southbound school bus, officials from the Ohio State Highway Patrol advised, as per reports by FOX8. The collision resulted in the bus overturning; fortunately, there were no students aboard at the time, but the bus driver and an aide both sustained non-life-threatening injuries while both wearing seatbelts. The driver of the Buick suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital by EMS.
Traffic was disrupted due to the accident, with Route 301 being temporarily closed at Parsons Road, but it has since been reopened. First responders from Carlisle Township Fire Department and LaGrange Township Fire Department attended the scene of the crash. Keystone Local School District Superintendent Zach Weagley released a statement, "Earlier today, one of our district buses was involved in an accident while returning from a route. Thankfully, no students were on the bus at the time," FOX8 conveyed.
The school district is now working to manage the aftermath of the incident; minor adjustments to certain bus routes were expected to occur later in the day. "Wildcat Families, We want to make you aware that one of our school buses was involved in an accident earlier this morning. There were no students on the bus at the time," according to a statement from the Keystone Local School District obtained by Cleveland19. They went on to assure families that the safety and well-being of the staff and students remain the district's first priority and thanked everyone for their patience as the district works to ensure minimal disruption from the incident.
