The Los Indios Land Port of Entry has been upgraded, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The project, completed in partnership with the General Services Administration, Cameron County, and the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority, was part of the Donations Acceptance Program. Improvements include a refurbished export office building, a new security fence, new concrete, and a motorized gate with automated controls to support more efficient cross-border trade operations.

Although the project is small, officials say it will improve operational efficiency and support collaboration between U.S. and Mexican border officials. Diane J. Sabatino, Acting Executive Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Field Operations, said the upgrades will enhance working conditions for CBP officers and Unified Cargo Processing staff and help speed up legitimate trade in the United States, according to an official announcement.

The Donations Acceptance Program allows CBP and GSA to accept donations of property and non-personal services, which in this case helped fund the upgrades without using federal money. GSA Acting Commissioner Mike Rigas said the project demonstrates GSA’s commitment to providing modern, secure, and efficient infrastructure that supports federal missions and improves cross-border trade.

Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. said the project will help local economic growth by improving vehicle inspections and facilitating cross-border traffic. The upgrades began under a Donation Acceptance Agreement in November 2023 and were completed in September this year. They are expected to be fully operational soon, according to CBP and GSA.
