The Louisiana Outdoors Forever (LOF) Program has recently made an announcement through an official release that its third funding cycle will be open for pre-applications this month. Beginning Monday, November 24, conservation projects that seek funding can apply until the window closes on January 23, 2026. Riding high on previously successful cycles, the LOF's new round boasts $1,078,650 in total available funds for the upcoming year, according to the LDWF's website.
Throughout its initial funding bouts, LOF made significant strides with 18 projects funded, channeling over $10 million into varied conservation efforts within Louisiana. Announced funds for the 2026 cycle include $1 million provided by the state legislature in 2025 and an extra sum of $78,650, going unallocated from the previous cycle. These reserves mark the organization's consistent dedication to bolstering the state's commitment to ecological and recreational priorities alike.
In its announcement, LOF detailed the success of its prior funding cycles. In 2023, the program allotted $10 million, which, combined with matching funds, had a significant impact of $37.9 million. The following 2025 cycle managed a smaller, yet meaningful, allocation of $921,350, bringing together a total impact of $5.21 million with the aid of matching funds. These measures affirm LOF's role in championing initiatives that broaden conservation, habitat restoration, land management, and public access in Louisiana, as mentioned on the LDWF news release.
Applicants eyeing the 2026 funds must showcase projects that sync with the program's ambitions to stretch conservation's reach within the state. While the LOF does have set scoring criteria for evaluating these projects, the board will also take into consideration the potential economic benefit each project could inject into Louisiana. Driven by the mission to provide a fiscal edge, the program operates as a supplementary funder, commonly used to leverage state or federal grants for potential applicants.
Eligible projects are expected to meet established criteria, with priority given to those that align closely with the LOF’s guidelines. Applicants can find details on the application process, deadlines, and eligibility in the official LOF statement on the LDWF's website. As the organization prepares for its upcoming funding cycle, the LOF aims to further support Louisiana’s lands and waters, strengthening the state’s natural heritage for residents and visitors alike.
