Walsenburg residents and travelers can expect to see some major road work along the I-25c business loop in the upcoming weeks. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), together with construction partner Siete, Inc., is set to begin the Interstate 25c Resurfacing and Safety Improvements Project just north of Walsenburg starting mid-November, as confirmed by CDOT. The project aims to resurface I-25c from Mile Point 2.3 to MP 3.3, widen shoulders, create turn lanes, and implement other safety features such as embankment, concrete stormwater pipe, lighting, and a soil nail wall.

Region Transportation Director Shane Ferguson is quoted as stating, “These improvements provide safer business access and provide a smoother road surface,” as per CDOT. Anticipated improvements are expected to enhance drivability and safety for those who regularly navigate this stretch. Daily construction activities will run Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with single lane and shoulder closures likely to slow things down for motorists.

While construction is bound to create some disruptions, CDOT has been proactive in advising travelers to plan to avoid short delays. The project is on track to finish by summer 2026, barring unforeseen conditions. Traffic will be managed with speed reductions in the work zones, and all construction scheduling is subject to change depending on weather conditions. Travelers should keep informed about potential impacts on their commutes and consider alternative routes when possible.
