A high-speed police chase ended abruptly when a man crashed his car into the front of a vacant Butler home last night. The incident began at a local Sheetz convenience store and escalated quickly, resulting in significant property damage.

The pursuit initiated around 11:50 p.m. after state troopers noticed a man, later identified as Joseph Bailie, appearing to be unconscious in a running vehicle. Following attempts to rouse Bailie and secure his identification, he began to rapidly drive away, according to WPXI. Bailie's flight resulted in him striking a concrete pole before putting his car into reverse to quickly speed away, nearly hitting a trooper in the process.

As reported by CBS News, the chase continued towards Hansen Avenue and New Castle Street, where Bailie's attempt at making a right turn was foiled by his excessive speed. Losing control, the vehicle ended up crashing into the home, causing heavy damage to the building's facade.

KDKA's news crew observed the aftermath, noting the extensive damage and the area being sectioned off with caution tape. After crashing, Bailie proceeded to abandon the vehicle and flee into the now-battered residence. He was found therein and apprehended. The list of charges against Bailie includes fleeing to elude a police officer, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence, and a range of traffic violations.

No one was inside the home at the time of the crash, mitigating what could have otherwise been a more tragic outcome.
