In a swift response by local law enforcement, 31-year-old Randy Campbell was apprehended in connection with the homicide. According to a social media post by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the shooting occurred on Saturday night on Sunbeam Road.
The local officers proceeded to quickly to launch an investigation after Nunley's death was confirmed by the Medical Examiner's Office as a homicide. A tip received through First Coast Crime Stoppers played a crucial role in identifying Campbell, leading to collaboration with the State Attorney’s Office to secure a warrant for his capture. Campbell, who was found in Dallas, Texas, was arrested earlier this week with assistance from the US Marshal Task Force and the Dallas Police Department, as stated by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. He is currently behind bars and will be extradited back to Jacksonville following the appropriate legal proceedings.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has expressed condolences to Nunley's family and friends, asserting, "Our hearts go out to Nunley’s family and friends; we’ll work with the State Attorney’s Office to make sure justice is served." The homicide investigation continues, with law enforcement committed to serving justice. Despite the troubling nature of this case, the Sheriff's Office was also quick to clarify that Campbell is not suspected in other recent homicides in the area and that speculation about a serial killer in Jacksonville is unfounded. The detectives are diligently investigating the other cases to bring closure for the victims' families.
Reports state that Campbell's extradition is imminent, and the case will proceed through the legal system to address this grave loss. "We'll work with the State Attorney's Office to make sure justice is served," reiterated the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, reinforcing their commitment to Nunley's loved ones and to public safety.
