A highway shooting disrupted traffic and sent one man to the hospital this past weekend in Memphis.
The Memphis Police Department (MPD) responded to reports of a shooting on Interstate 240 near Highway 385 at approximately 4:13 p.m. on Saturday, as confirmed by Action News 5. The victim, a male, was located and taken to the hospital in a state that was deemed non-critical.
Investigative measures caused the closure of all eastbound lanes on I-240 near the area, with traffic being redirected to Mt. Moriah. The MPD has relayed that the suspect, still at large, was seen in a grey pickup truck, these details were corroborated by a report from Local Memphis.
According to the same source, the obstructed lanes were eventually re-opened just before 8 p.m. that same evening. The incident, coinciding with the Thanksgiving weekend, added to existing travel stressors, with one local truck driver, Rafael Taylor, telling FOX13 Memphis, “As far as all the security we have… state troopers being around, ATF, FBI, we should be a little bit more safe. I’m a truck driver, and I get it all the time. But you've got to be careful. Stay at home.”
The MPD is urging anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect's whereabouts to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH. The situation on I-240 created significant, traffic delays according to the reports.
