Over a thousand seniors and community members came together at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center for the 52nd annual Maui County Senior Fair this past Saturday. The event, which has been a fixture since 1973, featured more than 60 organizations, including nonprofit groups, businesses, and government agencies. Attendees got the opportunity to learn about various services and programs dedicated to supporting the health, wellness, and independence of Maui’s older adults. There was also entertainment and door prizes up for grabs for those who attended.
Hosted by the County of Maui’s Office on Aging and the Maui Economic Opportunity (MEO), the Senior Fair has consistently offered a platform for elders, known locally as kūpuna, to connect with essential resources and support. The fair aims to enhance health awareness and share information about the various programs that are available across Maui County.
In her expression of gratitude for the event’s success, Rowena Dagdag-Andaya, Maui County’s executive on aging, said, “A heartfelt mahalo to our longtime partners at MEO for their continued collaboration in making the Senior Fair an engaging and community-centered experience each year.” She went on to thank the various participants, vendors, and volunteers who contributed to what she deemed another meaningful event, according to Maui County’s official website.
MEO chief executive officer Debbie Cabebe spoke warmly of the organization's involvement, saying, “MEO and the Office on Aging share a long history of working collaboratively on this and other initiatives that uplift and support our kūpuna.” Cabebe, in a statement obtained by the Maui County’s official website, highlighted that the MEO has been running senior programs for over 60 years as part of their commitment to empower and enrich the lives of community members.
