Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has issued a limited juvenile curfew effective yesterday to Wednesday, requiring individuals under 18 to remain indoors between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. The measure follows recent disturbances involving juveniles, including a large Halloween night disruption in the Navy Yard area.

According to the Executive Office of the Mayor, the curfew aims to address rising juvenile-related incidents and gives the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) authority to enforce earlier curfews in high-risk zones or areas where gatherings may threaten public safety.

The decision comes after a recent surge in juvenile misconduct, including street blockages and disorderly conduct, following the expiration of an earlier emergency curfew extension earlier last month. That extension had initially reduced youth-related disturbances.

During a public roundtable on Thursday last week, Mayor Bowser and other officials discussed strengthening curfew enforcement through the Extended Juvenile Curfew and designated Curfew Zones.

The Juvenile Curfew Emergency Amendment Act of 2025, passed on July 7, had expanded the curfew to include 17-year-olds and weekend nights, resulting in temporary improvements before disturbances resurfaced.

The MPD has since increased patrols and continues to enforce public safety measures as the city evaluates long-term strategies to reduce juvenile-related disruptions.
