A McKenzie, Tennessee man is facing multiple federal child exploitation charges after a grand jury in Jackson issued an indictment. John A. Bell, 59, is charged with 14 counts of using minors to create explicit material and one count of possessing illegal images on his cellphone. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Tennessee, the phone contained images of minors, including at least one child under 12.
United States Attorney D. Michael Dunavant detailed the allegations, which span from fall 2021 to October 2025 and involve six minors. Bell is staring down a minimum of 15 years and a potential maximum of 30 years in prison on each of the production counts, with the addition of up to 20 years on the possession count. It’s vital to note that these accusation are just that — allegations. Bell maintains the presumption of innocence until his guilt can be demonstrated beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The investigation leading to these serious implications has been a tag-team effort, spearheaded by Special Agent Eric McCraw from the FBI Nashville Division's Jackson Resident Agency, and Lt. David Andrews of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. The case itself sits before United States District Court Judge J. Daniel Breen, awaiting progression through the judicial process.
Officials are urging anyone with additional information regarding Bell’s case or any instance of minor children abuse to immediately reach out to the FBI Nashville Division at (615) 232-7500 or the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at (731) 642-1672. Assistant United States Attorney Josh Morrow is at the prosecution's helm for the government.
