The Whitehaven community in Memphis held its 29th Annual Christmas Parade yesterday morning, a longstanding local event. According to WREG, this year’s parade, themed "Celebrating the Gifts of Memphis," started at the intersection of Shelby Drive and Elvis Presley Boulevard and included marching bands and performances.
Fredrick McWilliams, the parade’s executive producer, provided details about the event, noting that marching bands, dance groups, and local businesses would take part, as reported by WREG in the days leading up to the parade.
Dr. Christopher B. Davis, president of LeMoyne-Owen College, served as the grand marshal. Action News 5 also reported on the Academy for Youth Empowerment, founded by Hazel Moore, noting its role in organizing the event and Moore’s long-standing involvement in the Whitehaven community since 1997.
The Christmas parade in Whitehaven is an annual community event that brings together residents of all ages. In an interview with Local Memphis, local resident Darleen Stewart commented on the participation of children, elders, and other members of the community.
