Construction on the Chariton County Route PP Chariton River Overflow Bridge near Salisbury is scheduled to begin Nov. 17, as part of Missouri's statewide bridge improvement program. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) confirmed that the existing bridge, in service since 1959, accommodates roughly 426 vehicles each day.
With Route PP currently closed for the Mid Fork Chariton River Bridge replacement, drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes. The Chariton River Overflow Bridge project is expected to be completed and the roadway reopened by early March 2026. MoDOT advises motorists to plan ahead, as the construction zone may cause delays.
The Northwest Bridge Bundle project, awarded as a design-build contract to the Capital – Horner & Shifrin team, will restore or replace 31 bridges in poor condition across north central Missouri. Approved by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission in December 2023, the project aims to save time and costs. "The Northwest Bridge Bundle is a Design-Build project which will replace or rehabilitate 31 poor-condition bridges in north central Missouri," said MoDOT Project Manager Michael Marriott in an official announcement.
A full list of bridges targeted for replacement under the Northwest Bridge Bundle project is available on MoDOT's Northwest Bridge Bundle webpage. MoDOT notes that all construction schedules are weather-dependent and may change.
