In a concerning turn of events, the Burke County Sheriff's Office has apprehended a 66-year-old man, Frank Wayne Campbell, from Morganton, on charges related to the exploitation of minors. According to a post on their official Facebook page, Campbell faces two counts of second-degree exploitation of a minor following a tip-off and a subsequent investigation.
Emanating from a cyber-tip by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on October 6, the investigation ultimately led to a search warrant being executed at Campbell's residence at 1054 Brown Dr. During the search warrant's conclusion, Campbell, without incident, found himself under arrest. The charges come with a hefty $250,000 secured bond, as reported by the sheriff's office.
The legal proceedings for Campbell began swiftly with his first court appearance scheduled for Monday, a prompt response that underscores the gravity with which authorities are treating the case. The sheriff's announcement on Tuesday provided the public with these details, signalling transparency in their operations and an acknowledgement of the community's concern over such serious allegations.
