The Metropolitan Police Department described an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Friday around 6:47 p.m. on the 4400 block of Reservoir Road after officers responded to a residential alarm. Police said the suspect, 41-year-old Kevin Booker, was subject to a Civil Protection Order and remained inside the home despite officers issuing loud commands for more than 20 minutes, as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers entered through an unlocked door and encountered Booker during their search of the second floor. The situation escalated when "the suspect suddenly lunged at the officers with a knife and a screwdriver in his hands," prompting one officer to fire and strike him.
D.C. Fire and EMS responded after the shooting, and Kevin Booker was later pronounced dead at a hospital. The Metropolitan Police Department said he had been arrested the day before for violating a Civil Protection Order issued on October 30 and noted that “the involved members have been placed on administrative leave, pursuant to MPD policy.” The incident is under review by the Internal Affairs Bureau’s Force Investigations Team, with an independent review expected from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Body-worn camera footage will be released under D.C. Official Code § 5–116.33(c)(2), and police are requesting information from the public.
