The MSPCA-Angell is asking for help identifying the owner of a severely malnourished stray dog found in Boston, named Fiyero. The three-year-old miniature poodle mix was found in an emaciated condition, scoring 1 out of 9 on a standard scale used to assess a dog’s weight, the MSPCA-Angell reported.

Mike Keiley, Vice President of Animal Protection at the MSPCA-Angell, noted that Fiyero’s past is currently unknown. The dog’s poor condition raises questions about his previous care and well-being. The MSPCA-Angell highlighted the urgency and uncertainty surrounding Fiyero’s case.

MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement is working with Boston Animal Control to determine how Fiyero ended up in such poor condition on Geneva Ave. in Dorchester. The agency noted the need for information from the public to better understand the dog’s background and recent hardships. MSPCA-Angell also said Fiyero’s owners might be searching for him or could have been involved in his situation. Anyone with information about Fiyero or his owners is encouraged to contact MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement.

Recovering from extreme neglect will take time for Fiyero, who is currently at the MSPCA-Angell’s Larson Kelly Community Clinic. He will need careful, gradually increased feedings to prevent Refeeding Syndrome, a potentially dangerous condition for starved animals. Fiyero is expected to spend several weeks in foster care before he can be considered for adoption.

MSPCA-Angell is seeking more foster homes for dogs like Fiyero who need special care during recovery. Fiyero’s medical costs, including an emergency room stay, are expected to reach into the thousands. The organization is asking for donations to help cover ongoing treatment for animals in their care. Contributions can be made through the MSPCA-Angell website to support animals.
