Norman is gearing up for a unique culinary twist on movie night with its first-ever "From Screen to Plate" event. Set for November 7 at the Young Family Athletic Center, this unusual affair pairs the animated family favorite "Ratatouille" with a complementary tasting menu curated by Scratch Kitchen and Cocktails. Foodies and film buffs are invited to indulge in a chef's tasting that promises an appetizer course, soup, cheese courses, steak, dessert, and naturally, the titular dish — each inspired by specific scenes within the movie. Local diners can anticipate their palettes dancing along to scenes as they sip on paired wines and a celebratory champagne toast.
Jeff Moody, Program Coordinator for Norman Parks and Recreation, couldn't hold back his enthusiasm about the innovative format. "Ratatouille is such a fun, heartwarming movie that brings French cuisine to a playful, lighthearted story!" he told the City of Norman's press team. "We are so excited for this and we are looking forward to hosting several more moving forward." Indeed, the concept for this multisensory blending of food and film stems from City of Norman Recreation Manager Mitchell Richardson, who drew inspiration from similar events found in gastronomic hot spots like Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
The venue itself will be transformed into Ratatouille's whimsical Parisian world, complete with photo ops galore — ensuring an Instagrammable evening. With seating designed to accommodate four guests per table, those willing to splurge on the VIP experience will be treated to prime seating, a private table for two, and a souvenir wine glass to remember the night by. However, the immersion has its price: $100 per ticket, applicable to adults and children alike, with a clear no-substitutions policy.
For those Normanites keen on this limited-capacity event — capping at 100 guests — take heed, as registration is set to close at 11:59 p.m. tomorrow, November 4.
